What Is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is an AI-driven tool that enables human-like conversations and text creation thanks to natural language processing (NLP) technology. A “dialogue-based AI chat interface for its GPT-3 family of large language models”, it was created by an independent research body called OpenAI and was released to the world in November of 2022. As well as answering user questions, the technology is able to write emails and code, engage in conversation, provide information, and produce longer form essays and articles on almost every subject.
With over 175 billion parameters, ChatGPT is one of the largest language models that’s ever been created. However, it’s important to bear in mind that as a pre-trained conversational tool, the technology cannot search the internet for information to answer a user’s request (unlike a search engine), instead it has already learned everything it currently ‘knows’ from training data. Due to how it’s been programmed, and with a neural network lexicon that only goes up to 2021, there is still room for error as any information required from after that time cannot be accessed by the tool.
Capabilities of ChatGPT include to:
Writing code:. A user can set instructions for the tool to generate scripts and functions.
Provide detailed explanations on complex subjects
Offer solutions to mathematical problems, with explanations.
Compose texts in different styles and tones
Write lyrics for songs or poetry
Provide the user with explanations of highly complex mathematical theorems
One of ChatGPT’s lesser known functions is its ability to multitask. It has multiple language functions, enabling it to juggle different activities simultaneously such as a translation, answering user queries, and summarizing texts. In addition, the tool works in real time, similar to how a chatbot on an eCommerce site functions. This real time capability means users can expect solutions very quickly (in fact, almost instantly) once a query has been placed.
