ChatGPT Enterprise arrives. Here’s what we know.

Few could have predicted in October 2022 how profoundly artificial intelligence (AI) would alter the global landscape. But with OpenAI’s release of ChatGPT on November 30, 2022, the game changed. Today, AI has permeated every aspect of life, and a monumental transition is underway as ChatGPT evolves from being largely a free, experimental platform to a commercial service.

Today marks the debut of ChatGPT Enterprise, an advanced iteration of the renowned AI chatbot by OpenAI. Designed with businesses in mind, this enterprise-level offering comes with heightened security, enhanced privacy, and a suite of robust features.

At the forefront of its offerings, ChatGPT Enterprise provides enterprise-grade security and privacy. According to OpenAI, companies will maintain complete control over their own data, even without the necessity for training on industry-specific dialogues. All user interactions are encrypted, and the platform meets the System and Organization Controls (SOC) 2 requirements, a privacy standard overseen by Certified Public Accountants (CPA). It’s worth mentioning that if you opt for the free or Plus editions of ChatGPT, OpenAI may use your queries for training purposes.

Furthermore, with the Enterprise version, you benefit from enhanced security measures. Conversations are encrypted during transmission using Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2+ and are also encrypted at rest via the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 256. The newly introduced admin console in ChatGPT enables simplified team management through domain verification, Single Sign-On (SSO), and utilization reports.

As for performance, ChatGPT Enterprise delivers responses at a speed up to double that of its previous iterations. It can also handle larger queries and documents, supporting up to 32K tokens, which essentially means you can submit inputs that are up to four times larger than before. Additionally, all usage limitations are lifted. Last but not least, ChatGPT Enterprise is powered by the most up-to-date large language model, GPT-4.

The Enterprise variant also offers unrestricted access to sophisticated data analysis tools, a valuable addition for businesses looking to harness the full potential of ChatGPT. If you’re interested in developing applications centered around ChatGPT— which is highly likely— the package includes shareable chat templates. These can be employed to establish standard workflows within your organization. For those with a more advanced skill set in programming, the Enterprise edition comes with complimentary credits for OpenAI’s Application Programming Interfaces (API), enabling you to craft your own specialized AI applications.

Since its debut merely nine months ago, ChatGPT has witnessed swift uptake, with OpenAI reporting that over 80% of Fortune 500 companies have integrated the AI assistant into their business operations. The freshly launched Enterprise edition is designed to cater to the escalating demand for a secure and efficient AI assistant in professional settings while also generating revenue.

Despite boasting hundreds of millions of users and having a commercially available variant in ChatGPT Plus, OpenAI is under pressure to deliver returns to its high-profile investors. Microsoft, for instance, has poured $10 billion into OpenAI. Additionally, in April, the company secured a $300 million share sale, attracting investment from notable firms like Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz.

As for corporate interest, the prospects appear promising. OpenAI indicates that well-known companies such as The Estée Lauder Companies, PwC, and Zapier are already leveraging ChatGPT. They are utilizing the technology to enhance communications, expedite coding projects, quickly find solutions to intricate business queries, aid in creative endeavors, and much more.

OpenAI is keeping its cards close to its chest when it comes to pricing for ChatGPT Enterprise. Although the service has officially launched, those interested will need to consult a sales representative to determine the cost specific to their organization. Are you planning to subscribe? We’re all keen to know whether you’ll be using the service and what pricing you’re quoted. This is one query that even ChatGPT won’t have an answer for!
